“My family and I were driving home from a short camping trip in the White Mountains, looking for a convenient lake to use our kayak in, as a fun way to cap our little vacation.  Suddenly, a beautiful lake, right on the road, so inviting….  And a fabulous view!"

"Although I now rarely get to make an in-person visit the Grove and be able to "inhale” from the Narrows Bridge the beauty of that quintessential, upper New England, experience — and have to rely, instead, upon the pictures of it — I continue to appreciate all that the Conservancy does to protect and maintain it for everyone to experience, hopefully in person."

"I would love to thank the trail maintenance crew for their spectacular efforts in cleaning up the Hammond Trail.  I thought that trail was damaged beyond repair as gargantuan trees the size of small cities blew down on the trail making it almost impossible to navigate.  I consider these folks “trail angels” and could not possibly thank you enough for repairing the damage done.  I felt like a little kid on Christmas morning when went up the Hammond Trail on Monday and witnessed what the crew had done.  I had just been up there on Friday, so having a crew get up there and complete the clean up on that trail in such short period is nothing shy of incredible. Thank you 1000 times over…you guys are the BEST!!!!!"

“I’ve been to the lake 25 or 30 ties in about as many years.  What made it stand out, even then but especially now, is the feeling that it’s not preserved – it just is.  No front gate, no snack stand, no lifeguard, no little pontoon rope to tell you where you can’t swim.  Just a lake in the mountains, like it belongs there.”
