October 20, 2018: We are pleased to announce that the CLC has exceeded its $1.85 million goal for the Timeless Chocorua campaign. As a result, the Board will be able to fully fund all three campaign initiatives: 1) Basin View Lot project; 2) Stewardship Fund; and 3) Chocorua Lake & Lands Access Fund. The Board of Directors voted to close the campaign to new gifts.
For as long as anyone can remember, the view of Chocorua Lake and the Little Lake, the rustic Narrows Bridge, and Mount Chocorua has been one of the most photographed scenes in the Northeastern United States.
The Chocorua Lake Basin has graced calendars all over the world and is recognized on New Hampshire’s second “America the Beautiful” state quarter released in 2013. The 6,000-acre Chocorua Lake Basin was designated by the National Park Service in 2005 a National Historic District, the largest such district in New England.
The Chocorua Lake Conservancy (CLC) and its predecessors, the Chocorua Lake Conservation Foundation and the Chocorua Lake Association, have preserved — since 1968 — the scenic and natural resources of the Chocorua Lake Basin. Thanks to the vision of its founders, the generosity of its donors, and the dedication of its volunteers, the CLC owns or protects almost all properties bordering on and visible from Chocorua Lake.
The result? A stunning and iconic view, pristine water quality, a scenic landscape, and public access to 40 percent of Chocorua Lake’s shoreline and nearby conservation lands.
The founders’ vision to protect and preserve the Lake and lands was prescient. They were in the early wave of a national movement to use ownership and easements to conserve and protect land. But ensuring that Chocorua Lake and surrounding land are protected and conserved now and forever is a constant effort.
For the past 50 years, the CLC has quietly but effectively helped preserve and protect the Basin. The Chocorua Lake Basin remains as beautiful today as it was 150 years ago. It is time to celebrate the CLC’s accomplishments, and it is time to permanently protect the Basin’s future.
To celebrate our 50th anniversary and provide the CLC with adequate resources to continue protecting the Basin for the next 50 years, we have launched the “Timeless Chocorua” Campaign, which includes the following three initiatives:
Basin View Lot – Chocorua Lake and Lands Access Fund – Stewardship Fund
