Chocorua Lake Conservancy
October 20, 2018: We are pleased to announce that the CLC has exceeded its $1.85 million goal for the Timeless Chocorua campaign. As a result, the Board will be able to fully fund all three campaign initiatives: 1) Basin View Lot project; 2) Stewardship Fund; and 3) Chocorua Lake & Lands Access Fund. The Board of Directors voted to close the campaign to new gifts.
The CLC’s Board of Directors greatly appreciates the generous support of all the households who generously supported the Timeless Chocorua campaign at all levels, and the dozens of people who donated their valuable time over the past two years to help us with campaign solicitations, host campaign house parties, volunteer at campaign events, contribute chapters to the 50th anniversary book chronicling the rich history of the Chocorua Lake Basin, and countless other campaign-related activities.
Final Campaign Results: Since we launched the campaign over two years ago, the CLC has received gifts and pledges from 358 different households totaling $1,718,187, including over 100 first-time donors. Our support was geographically diverse: households from across 62 New Hampshire towns and 31 states contributed, with the majority of gifts coming from residents of New Hampshire (170 households), Massachusetts (84), Pennsylvania (16), New York (12) and California (12). We also received $136,050 in generous grant funding from the New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP), the Tamworth Foundation, the Fields Pond Foundation, and the Samuel P. Hunt Foundation.
$70K Challenge Gift achieved >> Between mid-August and Columbus Day, the CLC received over $80,000 in new campaign gifts and gift increases from existing campaign donors, which triggered a generous $70,000 Challenge Gift from two CLC members and helped us achieve our campaign goal.
Basin View Lot project >> On August 17th, the CLC closed on the purchase of a Conservation Easement to protect the “Basin View Lot” on the west side of Route 16 overlooking the Chocorua Lake Basin from development and to ensure that visitors will forever be able to stop and enjoy the view at this property. This iconic view from the Basin View Lot (see above photo) of the White Mountains was chosen for the U.S. Treasury’s “America the Beautiful” quarters issued in 2013. This view is reportedly one of the most photographed scenes in all of New England.
Tamworth Foundation $20K challenge grant achieved>> The CLC successfully raised $20,000 from NH residents between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend and achieved the $20K Challenge Grant provided by the Tamworth Foundation.
